Return to Practice

Hello Families,

In preparation for our return to practice on Monday, July 13, please review the below information very carefully. As excited as we are to get back in the water, it is very important you are fully aware of the policies and procedures moving forward.

We are all doing our best to stay healthy and keep our spaces clean. For those entering the Ransom Everglades campuses, we need your help affirming that you are healthy. To do this at scale, RE is using a mobile app called LiveSave/WorkSafe that connects directly and securely with our campus medical services. You can download the app and create a profile in just a few minutes by clicking HERE from your phone or mobile device or by downloading the LiveSafe app from the App Store or Google Play Store. When getting started, select Ransom Everglades School. A flyer of the LiveSafe/WorkSafe app is attached.

To attend practice each day, an athlete must take and pass the LiveSafe/WorkSafe health screening and record a temperature no higher than 99.9 °F before leaving home. If you are symptom free, and receive the green check mark, please save the time/date stamped confirmation and be ready to present it to a coach when entering campus. This confirmation will also be emailed to the address you recorded in the screening.

Please read the following guidelines carefully. Our protocols will be strictly enforced. No exceptions.

Pick up and drop off
Arrival

When you pull into the campus please take a right-hand turn and park between the auditorium and the edge of campus. Parents will not be allowed to exit the vehicle for any reason. Please turn on your flashers until a coach has come to your vehicle and taken the temperature of your athlete and reviewed your health screening confirmation. Their temperature must register 99.9 °F or lower. Parents may not wait for their athletes on campus. They must depart campus after drop off.

Timing
There are fifteen minutes allotted for drop off (3:40-3:55) and pick up (6:05-6:20). If you arrive before the assigned time, you should wait in your car until a coach approaches. If you arrive late to drop off, there will be a secondary drop off time (4:20-4:30).  Students may only walk to and from the pool in a socially distanced line, wearing their masks, with their coach at the designated time. There will be no exceptions, so please plan to arrive early.

To be clear, you may not go back to the pool to pick up your child, nor can the child walk through campus to meet you. If you know that you will have an issue picking up your child, please make arrangements for your child to be picked up by someone else or please do not bring them to practice that day.

Athletes walking or biking to/from campus must communicate with their coach beforehand. They will need to wait at the front of campus, wearing a mask, until their temperature is taken and they present their health screening confirmation before being allowed on campus.

On Deck

  • There will be no shower or locker room usage.  Please have your child ready to enter the pool.
  • Bring TWO WATER BOTTLES ALREADY FULL. They will have limited access to the water fountain.
  • There will be one bathroom open for boys and another for girls. They can only enter the bathroom one at a time. Bathroom use should be for emergencies only. The bathrooms will be sanitized each night.
  • Bags will be put on an individual chair for each lane that will be sanitized after each workout.
  • If there is lightning, the team will go underneath the grandstands and into the parking garage.
  • There is only one entry to the pool and one exit to the pool.
  • All athletes will travel in a group of 10 including the coach. No one is allowed through campus without a coach.
  • The coach will bring the athletes back to the front of campus after practice to be picked up.
  • There will only be one athlete per lane.

Participation is optional. Parents and athletes should determine what is the best interest of their family’s health and safety before participating.

Below is the link to sign up for July practices. We need an accurate count on how many kids to expect. Depending on the number of kids, we may split into 2 sessions, each 1 hour long. We will send an email out on Sunday evening with the confirmed practice time and the associated drop off and pick up times. Also, you must to have a current USAWP membership and sign the COVID-19 Return To Play Release and Waiver (when you log in, it should pop up right away, or can be found listed on the left column). Those who are not current members or haven’t signed the release and waiver will not be allowed to participate.

Notes from Raider WP Meeting (5/19/20)

In case you were not able to attend the meeting, here are some of the key takeaways:

  1. It is time to get moving again. The first 2 weeks of virtual workouts is meant to get everyone back in shape and on the same page mentally and physically. We know many of you have finals and end of the year projects, so we are not trying to overwhelm you or add too much screen time. Schoolwork is still the priority. We will meet at 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and we will assign homework workouts for you to do on your own time.
  2. Once classes are over, we will start incorporating classroom sessions to review team plays, watch game film together with coach commentary, have guest coach lectures (first up: Michael Rosenthal) with Q&A opportunities and continue individual workouts. This will continue throughout the month of June. Once RE reopens the pool, we will announce the next phase of social distancing practices.
  3. Players should keep a notebook, either digital or physical notebook, throughout the period of virtual practices.
  4. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT DUE TOMORROW AT 4PM:
    1. Workout #1: https://raiderwaterpolo.org/virtual-practices/ (all the workouts and video demonstrations will be posted here)
    2. Get your teammates to the 4pm meetings!

Plan Moving Forward

Hi Everyone!

I know it has been a process for us all to try to cope with the loss of high school season and the annual California summer training trip (in addition to the many celebrations for the 8th graders moving up to High School and for the graduating Class of 2020). And as you all know, May was supposed to be the transition from school season to club practices. While we are getting a late and unconventional start, we hope we have everyone’s support in trying to pick up where we left off, water polo wise. Please bear with us as we navigate through this process, as there may be small adjustments along the way.

Here is the current plan:
Tuesday, May 19: 4pm Raider WP Club Virtual Meeting (players and parents). Here is the link: https://meet.google.com/icm-vowo-eap. We will also send out a virtual meeting e-vite.

From Tuesday, May 19 until Friday, May 29 (last day of classes for at RE), we will have virtual practice from 4-5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. During this period, we will focus on assigned physical workouts for kids to do at home with little to no equipment (body weight exercises, ball handling – this can be done with any kind of large ball, cardio, etc.)

From Monday, June 1 until Friday, July 3 (originally the last scheduled practice before the California Trip), we will have virtual practices from 4-5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. During that time we will continue assigned workouts and add chalk talk sessions, game film (watch and analyze together), and set up guest lectures (from outside coaches and former collegiate players). It will be an incredible opportunity to teach and review the mental and strategical aspects of the sport with players in a classroom-like setting, as well as offer a variety of perspectives through the guest lectures.

As guidelines and safety protocols continue to change, we will continue to send updates and adjustments as needed. Once RE reopens the pool, we will share information on how we will move forward. Please expect for there to be social distancing measures in place (new normal). Know that we will do everything we can to make this experience meaningful and fun for the athletes.

If you have questions from now, please feel free to email us. We will also save time during the virtual meeting on Tuesday to answer questions.

We hope you all are staying healthy during this time and are focused on finishing the school year strong!

Thanks,
Eric, Jaime and Petar
